Nobody should have to choose between the desert on the coast of Peru and Machu Picchu. And on this 11-day trip with overnight stays in cool hostels, you don't have to. You start in Lima, where you can eat fresh fish and whizz around on dune buggies at an oasis in the desert. Then it's off to the mountains, where ruins, hikes and incredible landscapes await you. You will get to know Cusco up close on an insider tour and then visit some of the lesser-known highlights in the Sacred Valley before the big moment comes when you see Machu Picchu with your own eyes for the first time.

Hold on tight, there's a full programme today! From Lima, you'll head south along the coast to a small fishing village, where you'll have delicious fish for lunch and learn how Peruvian ceviche is made ... You can't eat it much fresher than this! Then it's off into the interior and over the sand dunes on dune buggies. You can even try your hand at sandboarding before swimming a lap in an oasis in the desert at sunset. Then it's on to the next oasis near Huacachina, where we check into the hostel and chill out. Already the best holiday ever? And it's only the second day!
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Spend the day in Huacachina as you wish today. If you want to experience something, you can take a sightseeing flight to see the Nazca Lines, learn to kitesurf in Paracas, visit nearby pisco distilleries or take a ride in a dune buggy! Alternatively, you can simply lie by the pool of your hostel in the oasis with a cool drink. That's always a good alternative.
Meals: Breakfast
Today we set off early by bus to the nearby town of Paracas for a boat trip to the Islas Ballestas. Seabirds, penguins and sea lions are waiting for you here! If you feel like it, you can have another delicious fish lunch before heading back to Lima in the afternoon, where you can go out with your friends on your last evening. Who fancies a pisco sour?

Hopefully you're a good walker, because today we're doing a few kilometres! We'll walk with the CEO to San Pedro market and then through the narrow cobbled streets of the city to Sapantiana, an aqueduct and stepped waterfall and hidden gem of the city. Afterwards, head to San Blas for a fantastic view over the city and a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants around the small square. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city or having a drink in the main square and watching the hustle and bustle around you.

You may be familiar with the typical day trips to the Sacred Valley. This is not one of them! The private bus takes you first to the lesser-known (but no less magnificent) Inca ruins of Killarumiyoq, a sanctuary dedicated to the moon. After the visit with our well-informed guide, we head to the next Inca site at Iglesia Ñaupa and then walk through the mountains to the beautiful Perolniyoc waterfall. Enjoy the marvellous landscape and a delicious picnic lunch here. We then hike back to the bus and continue to nearby Ollantaytambo. Fancy something different? Then see the ruins of Ollantaytambo at sunset, sit in a café or simply hang out with friends in the hostel.

Train departs! On the early train, you can sit back and enjoy the marvellous view of the Rio Urubamba valley. The hikers among us who have booked a day on the Inca Trail leave the train at km 104, hike to the Sun Gate with a local guide and visit Machu Picchu in the afternoon before everyone meets up again in the evening. The others will be in Aguas Calientes before lunch and can spend the rest of the day exploring the town, shopping, visiting a nearby waterfall or bathing in the thermal springs. But don't stay up too late, because tomorrow is the big highlight!

Rise and shine! Getting up early may hurt a little today, but we swear it's more than worth it. Before sunrise, you'll take the bus up the mountain to Machu Picchu, where you'll take a guided tour with our local expert to see the temples and terraces of this enormous Inca site. Have lunch in one of the many restaurants in Aguas Calientes before travelling back to Ollantaytambo by train and then on to Cusco by bus. You've probably already realised that the nightlife in Cusco is pretty great. And if you haven't ... now is the best opportunity to find out.

A day off in Cusco? Yes please! Anyone who hasn't done enough kilometres and taken enough fantastic photos could do the all-day hike to Rainbow Mountain. But there are also many great alternatives, such as mountain biking, visiting the city's museums, markets and shops - or simply hanging out with friends in the hostel. Whatever you do, it will be great.
