When you think of Cancun, you might think of wild students on spring break. Well, it is, but if that's not your thing, then just avoid this time of year, it's easy! Whatever your interest, Cancun is a party paradise with turquoise blue Caribbean sea and white sandy beaches in the background. Plus, we start our trip there because it's close to the airport and Cancun is a good place to start the journey! It's time for our welcome dinner, where you can get to know your new travelling friends, also known as TruFam, over dinner and a few cervezas (that's beers for you culture vultures ;)) by the pool or on the beach. Salud!
Activities: Welcome Dinner
After a long flight and a night on the town getting to know your group better, you could probably do with a bit of a rest, and we can't think of anything better than the island of Holbox. A true paradise, beautiful beaches, no cars, plenty of beach bars with live music and zero stress or hassle. Isla Holbox is home to tropical marine life, so jump in and explore! But if you fancy a little more relaxation, how about a hammock in the sea? Dreamy, we told you it was paradise! If you need us, you'll find us in the hammocks! Spend the day relaxing and chilling and get ready for the next day, because tomorrow our adventure in the Yucatan continues!
Activities: Transfer to Holbox, beach day
Enjoy a nap before jumping on a boat to explore three UNREAL places, just you wait. First up is Bird Island, home to many beautiful birds that you can only find here! Next up is the "Eye Of The Water" cenote, a large natural pool with freshwater springs surrounded by mangroves - sounds like something out of a film, but it's real! The bright turquoise pool is just a few metres from the sea, so make sure your cameras are charged because you don't want to miss this rare sight! Last but not least, we make our way to Passion Island, home to shoals of PINK FLAMINGOS! It really is a great experience to see these wonderful birds in their natural habitat! And hey, now's a good time to remind yourself that you're a flamingo in a flock of pigeons, TruFam! Next, it's time to hop back on our boat, have a few beers (or your beverage of choice, you do you) and hopefully catch a stunning sunset! And if we're even luckier, we'll be able to see the bioluminescent light in the sea after dark - that's a real spectacle!
Activities: Boat trip to Bird Island, Eye of the Water and Passion Island
Today is the day! We're off to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Mayan site of Chichen Itza, which is a must-see in Mexico (of course!). We will leave Holbox early to make our way to this wondrous monument! Once there, we'll take a guided tour to learn more about the fascinating history of the site and the Mayan civilisation. Trust us, you won't forget this moment! After marvelling at the site and ticking one of the seven wonders of the world off our bucket list, we continue on to the Yokdzonot cenote. Take a dip in the breathtaking turquoise-coloured water, because you're in one of the most incredible natural pools in the Yucatan! After an afternoon of splashing around, floating on our backs and enjoying the unreal views or just chilling and admiring the cenote, it's sadly time to go. Sigh. But don't worry, we'll have even more fun when we make our way to Merida and arrive in the early evening. We'll take an orientation walk through the city to see all the spectacular sights. Welcome to Merida!
Activities: Guided tour in Chichen Itza, Cenote Ik Kil, Merida exploration tour
Today we venture just outside of Merida and cycle back and forth between three stunning cenotes, with a little lunch on the way! After spending the day chilling and swimming in the cenotes, we head back to Merida to relax for a few hours before it's time to get ready for the evening! Cycling shoes off, dancing shoes on! Prepare to get your taste buds tingling as we head out to sample delicious local dishes - or as we call it: the ultimate Mexican feast! Tacos and burritos galore! So you're in Mexico (you already know that), but you can't come to Mexico without doing some tequila tasting. That's why our next activity of the evening is just that! Well, it's a tequila and mescal tasting to be exact. Tequila is also the national drink of Mexico! You know what they say when life gives you lemons.... Grab yourself some tequila! After we've had our fill of tequila, it's time to show off our salsa dancing skills in one of the many bars with live music in Merida. I told you we needed our dancing shoes!
Activities: Bike tour to three cenotes & tequila tasting
Meals: Lunch
Rise and shine! This morning we say goodbye to Merida and make our way to Bacalar, where we arrive in the early afternoon. This afternoon we head to the Bacalar lagoon (which has the clearest blue water!). Here you can either relax in the sand, go exploring by kayak/paddleboard or simply take a refreshing dip. Whatever you fancy! In the evening, we'll find a nice spot by the water to enjoy the sunset with a few beers (optional, of course). A great end to the day, we'd say!
Activities: Transfer to Bacalar & lagoon
We know what you're thinking: we must really love lagoons, because YES, we're on our way to another lagoon, but this time it's the 7-colour lagoon! And it's definitely worth it. Why it has 7 colours or how it has 7 colours, you ask? Well, we're not scientists, but we know it's because the lagoon's clear water and white sandy bottom create different shades of turquoise, blue and deep indigo. But we can just pretend it's magic, because you have to see it to believe how amazing it is. Throughout the day we'll be stopping at various places along the way to cool off, take photos for the press and of course not be hungry so we'll have some lunch too! What a fantastic week so far!
Activities: Boat trip to the 7-colour lagoon
Did someone say trendy city on the beach? Yes, we did! Today we're off to Tulum, where we can spend the afternoon exploring the town and seeing what this funky beach town has to offer, or just relaxing on the white sandy beaches. Vamos a La Playa!!! Once we've satisfied our beach cravings, it's time to head out for dinner and drinks with the rest of the TruFam - cheers!
Activities: Transfer to Tulum
In the morning, we drive to the archaeological site of Tulum on the Riviera Maya to explore the ancient Mayan ruins. That sounds like a fascinating sight, doesn't it? Now imagine the bright blue ocean and white sandy beach as a backdrop - it's truly unique, so make sure your cameras are charged and ready to go! Just wait until your family finds out *wink*. After admiring the spectacular views, we head down to the beach for a refreshing dip and a cocktail (or two, or three, you decide) at one of the cool beach lounges. This is the life.
Activities: Ruins and beach of Tulum
Ok, we have a thing for stunning lagoons, but we also have a thing for great beaches (in case you didn't know) and that's why we're heading to Playa Del Carmen, a popular beachside holiday destination! Here you can shop for souvenirs or just treat yourself (you deserve it), or you can relax on the beach and top up your tan to achieve that summer glow we all dream of. The choice is yours! All good things must come to an end, and that means it's time for our farewell dinner and drinks in this vibrant, exciting city. Let's make this night unforgettable - or not, depending on how many tequila sunrises you've had - but we won't judge! ;)
Activities: Transfer to Playa Del Carmen & farewell evening
Time flies when you're having fun. How can it be that it's already day 11? Well, we're not so sure about that either, but we know it's been a great trip, with memories and friends for life. We're sad to see you go, but that just means you'll have to come back soon! If your adventure isn't over yet, our TruNinjas will be happy to help you continue your journey, but when it's time to go home, don't be a stranger! Stay epic, TruFam, it's been a dream!
