Travel from San José to the coast to the town of Quepos, which is located right next to Manuel Antonio National Park. Enjoy a few days in the area with plenty of time to explore and relax on the beach.
The small town of Quepos is located on the Pacific coast and this region of Costa Rica is a great place to relax and enjoy the sun and the nearby sea. Not far away, the Manuel Antonio National Park offers beautiful white sandy beaches and warm turquoise waters, ideal for swimming, fishing, kayaking, boogie boarding, sailing or surfing.
Spend the afternoon getting your bearings or head to Manuel Antonio National Park and go to the beach.
Villa Romantica Quepos (or similar)
Discover the lush tropical forests and white sandy beaches of Costa Rica's smallest national park. Hike through the dense forest, climb on rocky outcrops to enjoy the view of the glittering Pacific Ocean and swim in the park's beautiful lagoons and tidal pools. Later, you can enjoy your free time on the beach. Optionally, you can go on a kayak tour through the mangroves or take a surfing lesson.
Visit to the Manuel Antonio National Park
Manuel Antonio 5 hours 3 km
Pack your sun cream, snacks and beach shoes and get ready for a great day out in Costa Rica's smallest but no less impressive national park. Manuel Antonio offers four white sandy beaches separated by jagged rocky outcrops and tidal pools where you can swim, snorkel and sunbathe. When you've had your fill of the beach, head to the shade of nearby hiking trails in search of sloths, monkeys and armadillos. Climb up to the viewpoint to enjoy the view of the pristine Pacific Ocean and the offshore islands.
Today's walking route within the park is 3 kilometres and takes about 2-3 hours.
Villa Romantica Quepos (or similar)
Enjoy your free time in Quepos. You can optionally book a catamaran experience. In the afternoon, travel to Monteverde and into the cool mountain air of the region. On arrival, you can settle in and relax in peace.
Later in the day, you will ascend to the cloud forest region of Monteverde. Spend the next few days exploring the town and a cloud forest reserve, a true paradise for birdwatchers. This unique community has several co-operatives that are well worth a visit.

Enjoy a free day to explore the cloud forest region of Costa Rica. You can fly over treetop zip lines, admire the work of local craftsmen or visit a coffee plantation. Take part in a guided night hike in the cloud forest to learn all about nocturnal life.

La Fortuna, the town at the foot of the Arenal volcano, is a great starting point for adventures. Over the next few days, you can hike along the area's nature trails, swim in La Fortuna's cool waterfall or go canyoning (abseiling) and enjoy a bird's eye view of the green forest landscape.

Enjoy a typical lunch of plantains, beans and freshly caught tilapia fish. Wake up and head into the Sarapiquí rainforest to discover some of the more than 400 bird species that are native to this region. Led by a local guide, you'll keep an eye out for rare species and learn tricks to spot birds hiding in the wild.
