We'll meet up as a group, go for a welcome dinner and then have a few drinks in Costa Rica's biggest city. It's your first night... Have a cocktail, or 7, we won't judge you ;)

On day 2, we dive straight into the rich culture of Costa Rica. We travel to Coop San Juan, a rural Costa Rican village off the beaten track, where we will experience life as the locals do. After a short, scenic drive through the country (3.5 hours), we reach our picturesque village where we check in with our host families. If you want to get to know the real Costa Rica. Here it is. Meet the families who have kindly taken us in before giving us a cookery demonstration. Costa Rican food is out of this world. So try to learn a thing or two. Before the sun goes down, we head out to explore the area by bike - keeping an eye out for wildlife and getting a real feel for the Costa Rican countryside. We play a few games with the locals and watch the sun go down as we gather around the campfire. Was that an epic first full day? You better believe it. But hey, start as you mean to go on, right?
Activities: Bike tour, homestay & cookery demonstration
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Today we make our way to La Fortuna, the adventure capital of Costa Rica. The beautiful mountain town of La Fortuna lies at the foot of the Arenal volcano and is a playground for adrenaline lovers. After settling into our accommodation, we head straight for the town's famous volcanic hot springs. Get excited, boys and girls, because these hot springs are the highlight of La Fortuna and unlike anything you've ever seen before. These are no ordinary hot springs... We're talking volcanic hot springs on steroids. Imagine waterslides, swim-up bars, waterfalls, grottos and restaurants that make you feel like you've wandered off to a luxury resort. Naturally, we spend as much time here as possible before heading out to explore the city.
Activities: Trip to La Fortuna & hot springs
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Today is a full day dedicated to exploring La Fortuna and there's certainly no shortage of things to do. Your travel ninja (that's your super cool, incredibly charming and knowledgeable tour guide, by the way) will take those who want a quieter day to the local swimming spot, El Salto. And those craving some adrenaline can spend the day however they want. Whether you opt for canyoning, white water rafting, volcano hiking, ATVing, ziplining, abseiling or something else, La Fortuna will not disappoint. The excitement will flow through your veins.
Activities: El Salto "Swimming Hole"
Today is as much about the journey as the destination. We pack up and begin one of the most scenic drives of our journey to Monteverde. This route takes us high through the jungle mountains, where we cross a picturesque lake with panoramic views of the Arenal volcano. Once in Monteverde, we have time to check in and settle in before setting off on a night safari later in the evening. The diversity of wildlife in Costa Rica is unrivalled and tonight we will be able to experience the nocturnal hustle and bustle up close. Sloths, armadillos, vipers, colourful tree frogs and exotic birds are just some of the animals you might be lucky enough to encounter on the night safari. Imagine you're in a documentary film by David Atteborough and let your TruFam member film and narrate the whole thing.
Activities: Transfer to Monteverde & night safari
When you talk about Costa Rica, ziplining through the cloud forest is probably one of the first images that comes to mind. In the 1970s, scientists used ziplines to explore the country's lush treetops without disturbing the environment, and so the idea of using ziplines for recreation was born. If we could zipline anywhere, we would. As the birthplace of ziplining and one of the best places to try this activity, it stands to reason that we would plan a day of ziplining in the world's most famous cloud forest. Not to mention, these are some of the longest and most exciting ziplines around, so grab your camera. It's going to be a great day!
Activities: Ziplining
We've learnt about the culture, we've experienced the nature and now we've had enough of adventures, so there's only one thing left - the beach! Costa Rica is world-famous for its beautiful coastline and world-class surfing, so today we're heading to our favourite beach in the country. SURF'S UP BABY! We love Santa Teresa because it has exactly the vibe we look for when we visit beach towns on our Tru tours. It's beautiful, not too touristy, there are lots of fun activities in the area and a happy, young vibe. Today is just a travelling day, but once we've settled in, we head to the beach to have cocktails and enjoy the first sunset over the Pacific.
Activities: Private transfer to Santa Teresa
Today we're relaxing on the beach. It's been a crazy few days and we're all about the pura vida lifestyle. Our accommodation is just a short walk from the beach, so you can spend the day relaxing on the beach or, if you're feeling super energised, do one of the many activities Santa Teresa has to offer. If you want to do a bit of surfing on your trip, today is the perfect opportunity as there are many great surf schools on the beach. In the afternoon, there's a sunset yoga class to help you relax before another day of adventure begins tomorrow.
Activities: Beach day & yoga class
Not far from Santa Teresa is a lesser-known Costa Rican highlight - the bohemian beach town of Montezuma. We travel by car to Montezuma, where we have lunch on the beach before visiting one of the famous waterfalls in the Costa Rican jungle (and hopefully catch a glimpse of howler monkeys and other wildlife). After the waterfall, we'll visit a beach where, if we're lucky, we can walk over to Cabuya Island at low tide and visit a cemetery (again, it all depends on the tide). Tonight is the last night of our trip, so we head back to Santa Teresa to prepare for a farewell dinner and one last WILD night with the group.
Activities: Day trip to waterfalls & Montezuma Town
All good things come to an end, we're not crying... but you are. We're in one of the best places in Costa Rica, so take a look around town and visit Santa Teresa. Whatever you do, don't forget us. Your travel ninja is at your disposal for any further travel plans. Need to get back to San Jose? They can help you. Need a hug because you're sad to be leaving? OK OK GROUP HUG.
